History of World Wide Web – The World Wide Web or simply “the Web” is a global information system that is the fastest-growing area of the Internet. over 400 million specially formatted documents, known as web pages are linked via an information navigation scheme called hypertext.

The web-like all internet services is based on the interaction and transfer of data between special server computers that is web servers and your PC that is using web browser software such as Internet Explorer from Microsoft.

Conventional information systems like textbooks present information on printed pages in a linear fashion. hypertext information systems, on the other hand, allow you to navigate through a flood of “information space” following any path of your choice.

Hyperlinks

Hyperlinks or links are web navigation elements that allow you to move, or navigate, between web pages. they also allow you to download audio, video, and other types of multimedia files. web pages accessed via a link may reside at the same website as the source link or at another site anywhere on the web.

There are three types of hyperlinks.

Image maps(containing multiple hyperlinks)

Functionally, all three categories of hyperlinks are identical. text hyperlinks are generally denoted in blue color and underlined, while image hyperlinks and maps are indicated by a blue-colored border. in all three cases, the mouse pointer will change from an arrow to a pointing hand when it passes over a hyperlink.

Web Pages vs Websites

A web page is a part of a complete website. a novel in English literature is a good analogy, think of the difference between a single page and the entire novel and you can begin to understand the relationship between a web page and a website.

A novel in its totality is analogous to the website and an individual page is analogous to the web page. the website can consist of only a few web pages or many hundreds of web pages. for example, Microsoft’s website currently serves over 250,000 web pages.
