JEE 2027: Syllabus, Pattern, and Preparation Strategy

Welcome to TheCScience. Whether you are aiming for IIT, NIT, or state government colleges, we provide chapter-wise notes and solved PYQs to help you achieve the 99th percentile in JEE. Before we start, let’s look at the basic information about JEE.

What is JEE (Joint Entrance Examination)?

JEE is one of the most competitive engineering entrance exams, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) since 2019. Students take the JEE to take admission in India’s best colleges like IITs and NITs. If you qualify for the JEE Main cutoff, you will be eligible for JEE Advanced.

JEE Main: For admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. It also serves as the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced.

JEE Advanced: For admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
To achieve the 99th percentile, a student needs a balanced mix of conceptual clarity, consistent practice, and the right resources.

Frequency of the Exam:

  • JEE Main: Conducted twice a year (January and April).
  • JEE Advanced: Conducted once a year (usually in May).

Mode of Exam:

  • Paper 1 (B.E. /B. Tech.): Online mode
  • Paper 2A (B. Arch): Drawing Test – Pen and paper mode and Mathematics and Aptitude Test – Online mode
  • Paper 2B (B. Planning): Online mode

Duration of JEE 2027

The standard duration for almost all JEE papers is 3 hours. However, there are exceptions for students taking multiple papers.

Paper TypeDurationTotal Marks
JEE Main: Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech)3 Hours300
JEE Main: Paper 2A (B.Arch)3 Hours400
JEE Main: Paper 2B (B.Planning)3 Hours400

Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech)Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics
Paper 2A (B.Arch)Mathematics, Aptitude Test, and Drawing Test
Paper 2B (B.Planning)Mathematics, Aptitude Test, and Planning Based MCQs

JEE Main is conducted in 13 languages to help students from different regions.

English & Hindi: Available at all exam centres across India.

Regional Languages: Available in specific states (e.g., Gujarati in Gujarat, Bengali in West Bengal/Andaman & Nicobar).

The 13 Languages are: English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

JEE Main 2027 Exam Pattern & Marking Scheme

The National Testing Agency is expected to follow the same rules as in 2026. A major change is that all questions in section B are now mandatory. Previously, there is no negative marking in Section B.

JEE Main Cut-off Trends: Last 5 Years (2021-2025)

The table shown below is the minimum percentile in your category to qualify for the JEE Advanced.

Important points for JEE 2027 Aspirants

  • The general category cutoff has crossed the 93 percentile mark in recent years. This means you need to be in the top 7% of all test takers to qualify for JEE Advanced.
  • To secure a seat in a top NIT, simply qualifying is not enough; you need to aim for a 98+ percentile to have a wide range of options.
  • Remember that percentiles are relative. In an easy shift, 180 marks might give you a 97 percentile, whereas in a tough shift, 150 marks might give you the same result.

Age Limit for JEE 2027

According to the current NTA guidelines for JEE Main:

  • No Age Limit: There is no upper age limit for candidates to appear in JEE Main 2027.
  • Qualifying Year: You can appear for JEE Main if you passed your Class 12 (or equivalent) examination in 2025, 2026, or if you are appearing in 2027.

Number of Attempts in JEE

  • JEE Main: You can attempt the exam for 3 consecutive years from the year you pass Class 12.
  • JEE Advanced: You can attempt the exam a maximum of 2 times in 2 consecutive years.
