One evening, Charly take the wrong turn in the station and he finds himself on the third level. The people, the trains, and the newspaper look old. He somehow entered the year 1894.

Charly wants to escape the real world because it is full of stress, war, and crises. He wanted to live on the third level, which was simpler and peaceful. He buys tickets to Galesburg, Illinois, where he thinks life should be happy. But he doesn’t have old-style currencies to carry the ticket. When he goes back to purchase, he can’t find the third level again.

Charley’s wife’s name is Lousia, and his friend Sam (a psychiatrist) thinks he is dreaming, but Charley writes a letter to his friend, which makes the story more mysterious.
