Short Summary of the last lesson class 12

The Last Lesson is written by the author Alphonse Daudet. At the start of the story, the author narrates the events held in 1870 when France was ruled by Bismarck-led Prussian forces. Further, the Alsace and Lorraine districts went under the Prussian forces. As a result, french was discontinued in teaching in these two districts.

The Prussian forces ordered the French teachers to leave their jobs. M. Hamel was unable to stay in his old school. The Student of M. Hamel was afraid of him. When students came on that day there was a punishment of anticipation. The student learns that this will be his last lesson. This story the last lesson shows how people feel when they don’t learn their language.

The narrator of this story is Franz. Franz was a French boy. He was lazy and had a sensitive nature. Franz hates his teacher H. Hamel who was the teacher of French in his school. An order has come that the German language was taught rather than the French language in the schools due to taking over the districts of Alsace and Lorraine. So it was the last day of M. Hamel because she was the teacher of French. He worked for over forty years in the school. The Village man also attends his last lesson in honor and respect. The village was sad because they couldn’t learn their mother tongue in their childhood.

Franz was shocked when he found out that this was the last lesson in French. A sudden interest arose due to it was the last lesson. He pays special attention to the class on the last day. He also liked her teacher M. Hamel instantly. He develops respect for the hard work and sincerity of his teacher. Franz was very sad and ashamed to recite his lesson.

Hamel explains that everyone was at fault for their lack of eagerness to learn. M. Hamel said that French was the most beautiful language in the world. The M. Hamel was emotional on that day. She noted that the language would assist them in attaining freedom from Germans. The people realized they were not learning their mother tongue language so they felt defeated by the Germans. Franz knows it is impossible to remove the language from a person.
